Information overload and being overwhelmed is common when you are starting an online business. I know, I have been there, still there at times. If you don’t know how or where to start an online business perhaps my sharing some of my experience with paralyses by analysis will help you.
This blog post you are reading is a small part of my online business. If you dig deeper into this site you will see I also have a home study course available on autopilot and a page where I offer one on one mentoring. So how did that come to be you wonder. Did I work hours and hours until it was perfect before I put it live? No I did not.
It started with an idea. The end result did look something like this site, but it is still a work in progress. My idea was in my head but I had no clue how to implement it. This all started with a post on Facebook where I offered to take 10 people through a test of me teaching an affiliate marketing class via email for free! I opened a private group on facebook for questions, feedback and discussions.
I had 10 people ask to be in my test within 2 days. I winged the entire thing. I sent out a daily lesson for 20 days (took weekends off). I asked for feedback. These lessons were all written by the way. I implemented some changes and started adding video tutorials over my shoulder type thing and made the offer again.
I did this three times and the last one if I remember correctly I charged like $20 bucks for it. There was no website, there was no lessons on autopilot and there was no way to auto pay either. It was all manual! It was all winged but the lessons were effective and got the information out.
So then I hired a web designer and he helped me put the idea and the emails that I had been sending on this site. The birth of Pajama Affiliates! Ta da! The beauty of it is I am still not done yet and Pajama Affiliates is growing. I now have added a guide by Jeremy Randall from proprietorsonline.com that teaches you step by step how to make a WordPress website from scratch on your very own site!
So you see if you think you have to have all of your ducks in a row before you start, I am living proof that you don’t. You just have to start with what you know even if that is just a little. I am still tweaking this course and it is far from perfect. Some of my videos load slower than others, I still have a spread sheet I have to figure out how to attach to the course and many other things. Had I waited til it was all perfect, none of us Pajama Affiliates would be Pajama Affiliates!
There is still a lot I don’t know. I am not a technical guru at all. I just got my first smart phone last week and learning it has been quite a hilarious and amusing event for my family. So don’t let the fear of the unknown stop you. If you don’t know where to start an online business, just take that first step!
