What is the Secret to Affiliate Marketing?
There are a lot of people that have tried affiliate marketing and not done so hot. They made little to any money at all. Then you have those that tend to make a ton of money. What do those that make lots of money affiliate marketing do that the others do not.
The Secret Sauce ….
While I could write an entire book on the secrets to affiliate marketing, since this is just a blog post, I will outline 7 keys that need to be in place to have success at affiliate marketing!
What is the Secret to Affiliate Marketing Success?
1. Your Mindset!
Ding! Ding! Ding! Don’t skip this over like, well, whatever… my mind is fine…
The best affiliate marketers are the ones who work on their mindset. Abundance is a state of mind.
You need to realize that your success is going to be a journey, not a destination.
There are going to be highs and lows and if you can’t handle that, well then maybe you’re not in the right business to begin with? Perhaps a job would be better for you?
I’m not trying to be mean here, I listed mindset as #1 for a reason!
If you are struggling with your business mindset, that’s the area you need to work on FIRST!
I can’t imagine going to work each day without taking care of mindset first.
That’s like showing up to a construction site to work without your hammer and nails.
Are you going to show up to your business without your best tools? Gosh I hope not!
2. Choose Your Niche Wisely
Choosing your niche is the first key to ensure affiliate marketing success. You have got to pick something that makes your heart sing!
If you miss this step, or get it wrong, you set yourself up for failure right from the get go.
Your niche needs to be small enough to target a small group of people in a specific area of interest.
If you are too broad with your niche, you won’t be able to target an audience and your content will just get lost in search engine space.
You need to make sure that you are looking at MICRO niches, start small!
The mighty oak tree starts out as a small seed!
A micro niche can be a passion, a problem you have or just an area of interest that keeps your attention.
Maybe you like bible journaling?
Perhaps you’re on one of those clean-eating diets?
Maybe you deal with low breast milk supply?
Your entire blog needs to remain relevant to a single topic when you are first starting out so that you can target a specific audience and remain relevant to search engines.
Choosing a niche that you know something about and have a lot to say about it is REALLY important! I am prime example of that.
I have a site on Himalayan Sea Salt and that is pretty dang narrow.
I use this pink salt in all sorts of ways, however, I can only write so much on Himalayan sea salt before running out of ideas and getting bored with it.
Although it is a profitable micro-niche, it’s not one that I can write for days about without getting bored.
One can only use so much salt in a week! It was not a good niche choice on my part, but you live and learn, right?
I know now that you have to choose a micro niche that makes your heart sing!
Just because something is interesting and profitable doesn’t mean that one should start a website and start blogging about it.
You’ll burn out fast if you’re not living the thing you’re blogging about.
3. Choose Products That CONVERT!
Make sure you have good products that are relevant and support your niche!
There is an endless supply of affiliate products on the web. You have digital products, and physical products such as what you would find on Amazon or Shareasale.
Without good supporting products there will be little money because you won’t be converting many sales.
4. SEO & Keywords
If I were to have to pick my top secrets to affiliate marketing, good SEO is one of my best weapons!
If you want to get found by search engines, you need to make sure you have good SEO and that you’re using keywords for your blog posts.
When people land on your website, do they immediately know what you’re about?
If not, then you’re overall SEO is probably hurting.
Your entire blog needs to make sense as a whole. When someone lands on that site, it should be clear to them how they can find what they are looking for.
Your blog topic, categories and blog posts all need to have a clear focus.
Another important part of your SEO is researching the keywords people are using to describe the topic you want to write about.
Is anyone searching for what you want to write about? If they are, does it make sense to the blog topic as a whole?
5. Use Social Media
At least 50% of my income comes from social media, mostly Facebook.
My partner Lesley, drives about 50% of her traffic from Pinterest!
Social media is the icing on the cake, it’s the gravy on your biscuit.
Social shares get you ranked quicker and increase your traffic which leads to MORE SALES!
If you aren’t using social media, which is free by the way, you are leaving hundreds if not thousands of dollars on the table.
Take the extra time to share your work on different social media channels, it doesn’t have to be all of them, but find one you like and use it!
6. Find Support!
I can’t say enough about how important it is to hang out with fellow affiliate marketers.
Mastermind groups are priceless because you can get feedback, support, tips, and network with people who share the same vision and goals as you.
Make sure you choose this group wisely because there is some major drama out there.
You want a group of positive individuals and preferably people who are making money themselves!
Successful people model other successful people.
Stay away from groups where the people are not making any money, you’re not going to learn much in that environment.
Another thing to avoid is groups with a lot of negativity and drama; no one who is making real money has time for that crap.
7. Learn Something New!
If I had to give one answer to what is the secret to affiliate marketing, this one would take the cake.
So many think they can skip this step and save a few bucks. Let me tell you, by not investing in your education of affiliate marketing you aren’t saving squat. You are wasting months of time by trial and error and leaving a lot of money in your wake.
You can get up and running and MAKING MONEY so much faster by investing into your education and your business!!
You can also start making so much money that you don’t take the time to learn how to advance yourself further!
I am self taught. I started out 10 years ago and it took me a good 18 months to 2 years to start making much money at all.
Had I had the sense back then to invest into my business, I would have gotten there a lot faster. The thing was though, I didn’t know who to invest in – you do!
There is so much hype out there and rarely does anyone offer you the support you need when you have questions.
