I know many affiliate marketers who do make money, but I know many who don’t. When I started, I met so many that were just starting. Now over 4 years later, almost all of them have just vanished, given up because they weren’t making money. I will share 5 of what I consider the top reasons why affiliate marketers aren’t making money.
#1 Reason Why affiliate Marketers Don’t Make Money!
Your niche is too broad and you haven’t narrowed it down. This one is one of the biggest errors affiliate marketers that aren’t making money make. What if you are in the pet niche? Is it dogs, cats, birds, or what? Small dogs, big dogs, medium dogs? A certain breed of dogs? Dog nutrition, dog training, doggie attire? Be specific, very specific.
I can’t count the time I have been coaching a client and I ask them what is your niche and they give me an answer like health or weight loss. These are just way too broad. You have to go deeper and get narrow.
If for example you affiliate marketing niche is weight loss, weight loss for who? Men? Women? Will you be promoting a diet? Who is your ideal customer? I have a friend who markets weight loss for menopausal women. She has targeted her market and she stays relevant throughout her website.
#2 Reason Why affiliate Marketers Don’t Make Money!
You rely on two few marketing methods to get your message out there. Maybe you just blog or maybe you just mostly use a list. To really get out there, you may want to embrace other means of marketing. Youtube videos for example. Facebook, Pinterest, and the many other social media sites. If you don’t have a list, consider building one. Article marketing is also another good one. If you aren’t utilizing what is available, you are leaving money on the table.
#3 Reason Why affiliate Marketers Don’t Make Money!
You are stuck on one product or one vendor to promote. Maybe you just use Amazon or Clickbank. There are so many more products out there and affiliate programs to promote. Tons. Recently I have added adsense to my youtube videos. I have never even considered that until the last few weeks. Considering I have hundreds of thousands of view on my videos, I shiver to think of the money I have left on the table by not doing this.
#4 Reason Why affiliate Marketers Don’t Make Money!
You have no call to action or a weak call to action. I am amazed at the sites I visit that I actually have to really look for a way to buy a product! If there is not strong call to action, people are going to click off or hit the back button and find somewhere that it is easy to buy.
There are so many ways to do this that will increase your conversions and put more money in your pocket. If you are getting traffic, but no sales, this is most likely your issue. Knowing how to write a blog post that converts sales is critical to your business.
#5 Reason Why affiliate Marketers Don’t Make Money!
You are scared of don’t believe you can do it really at your core. Maybe you let little things get to you. I know when I have a bad day where I see a lot of returns, I get discouraged. I think, oh boy, this so sucks. Last week I had over $200 in one day in returns. Made me a bit sick in my stomach. Instead of letting it get me down, I investigated the product and replaced it with another. It’s a trial and error, so get used to it.
The most common fear is that of what others will think. Many hold back, keep their voices low and censor what they put out there out of fear of what people will think. Some won’t do videos out of this fear or wont’ post links of their own work on Facebook. This person rarely makes money in affiliate marketing.
I have a Facebook friend who posts about her business on Facebook almost all day long. Oh at first it annoyed me, I confess. It’s been two years now and she is still at it. Still posting about the same business. This tells me she is passionate, consistent and knows her stuff. She just got back from Paris and before that two weeks in Morocco. Apparently she is doing something right.
