I have found that many select a broad affiliate marketing niche and get discouraged when they can’t rank in the search engines and the sales don’t come. Often it’s because they have failed to break down a niche. Take this site for example. Affiliate marketing is my niche, and let me tell you it’s very broad and highly competitive. So how do I break into it? By drilling it down.
This blog post that you are reading for example. Instead of attempting to target the keyword “affiliate marketing”, I have found another keyword that gets a fair amount of searches. It’s up there in my title. Affiliate Marketing Niche is what I am targeting here. It gets 2683 searches and the traffic that I can get from this term is estimated at 457 per month with little competition. I stand a far better chance at ranking for that than I do for affiliate marketing which gets 702,983 searches with about zero chance to rank for that term. These search stats are according to my new found keyword tool Jaaxy, that I happen to love.
So if you were to take a look at my other blog posts here, you will see that I have used this over and over. If I only have 10 different blog posts that target drilled down keywords in affiliate marketing that only average around 400 hits a month, I now have 4000 hits inside of this broad niche of affiliate marketing. If you are trying to hit it out of the ball park with just one blog post or one search term, your chances are slim. Instead, find other relative keywords and go from there and build it up.
A broad affiliate marketing niche is not a dead end. The key lies in breaking it down. Let’s take online dating for example. If you target every post around the keyword online dating, you aren’t going to get very far. Break it down for there is a lot to be said about online dating. There is the profiles, the first emails, the screen name, how long to wait for him to ask you out. The possibilities are endless. Write a post on all of the above and focus to rank for those and next thing you know, there you are, breaking into a broad and very competitive niche. It’s just a matter of time before the search engines will see you as an expert in your affiliate marketing niche.
I have become quite good at drilling down a niche. I cover this in my pajama affiliates home study course in more detail. You can find it here at Pajama Affiliates.
