Have you been doing affiliate marketing for a while now with little results? Do you feel like giving up? If so, well I am sure you know you are not alone. Many or actually most feel this way in the first year or so. Sadly many do give up during this time. About 95% give up before they make any money. Why is this? You get discouraged right? You have written articles, started a blog or perhaps been blogging on free sites for a while and have seen little if any money. Why would you keep at something that isn’t making you any money you ask.
If you decided to become a lawyer, a doctor or a nurse or anything that required you to go to school, would you just drop out because you hadn’t reached your goal before you finished learning all you needed to go out and earn a living at it? No, you wouldn’t. The reason? Because you are committed. You are committed to that dream. Affiliate marketing really is not different. I have written about commitment here in this blog post, Successful Affiliate Marketing – Commitment is a Big Key.
I think back to a job I had selling light bulbs and ballasts. I came home from work every day so discouraged. Believe it or not, this was a very very technical job. Some of these light bulbs were thousands of dollars and the ballasts to run them even more. Think football fields, industrial plants. A huge warehouse with thousands and thousands of different products. How would I even learn these? I wanted to just quit. plus my boss was a complete ass.
It took me almost two years, but learn them I did. I had manufacturer books that I would study. I asked questions. I was determined. I made sales call after sales call. You see I was also 1 of 2 women out of about 50 sales reps in this company. It was considered a man’s job. Not only did I learn it all but by year 2, I was consistently one of the top sales reps in the company. How? I committed to it! Conviction.
Do you remember having a job that you thought you would never learn or master? Remember how you felt when you were new? Yet you got up every day and went to work anyway. One day you realize, wow, I know this stuff now. Affiliate marketing is no different.
Most of us that have ventured into this affiliate marketing do so because we share a dream. A dream of freedom. Freedom of financial independence. Freedom to travel. Freedom to have enough to help others. Freedom from being strapped to a 9 to 5 day in and day out job. We are simply tired of helping another build their dream and want to build dreams of our own.
What is the price of that dream? Do you have a price on it? How far will you go to get there. Will you commit 100%? Have you heard of Catherine Lanigan? She published Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile. She followed her dream, but first she gave up for 14 years.
You see when Catherine was in college, she was chosen to participate in a creative writing seminar headed by a Harvard Professor. She wrote her first short story. She was to read it to the class but the night before the reading this professor called her to his office. He basically told her she sucked and to give up writing. She went back to her dorm, broken hearted and burned the story and did not write again for 14 years. What if she had never given up. She took another persons word for it that she had no talent. 14 years later it was another writer who called her out and told her she never even really tried.
She went back home, bought a stack of lose leaf paper, pens and started writing a novel. She mailed this manuscript to this writer, and the rest is history!
How many of us affiliate marketers have others who tell us we are chasing a pipe dream? How many of us have those that just don’t get what we do and think we are foolish. I was told that over and over by my friends and family. I chose not to believe them. I hope you do to. Do not give up! Believe you can do this, because you can. If I can, you can. Commit to what it takes, which is simply just not giving up!
This website pajama affiliates makes money selling a few products that I have created. I have other affiliate niche sites that also make money. I have a Mastermind group on facebook full of people who refuse to give up. Won’t you join us here.
It is important to acknowledge and learn from your mistakes. A large part of affiliate marketers fail initially because they can not set goals.A lot of people start with affiliate marketing without deeper knowledge, which is a mistake. First, they should read a few books on the subject.
