What is a Blog Post SEO Checklist?
It’s a list of things to check for when you’re writing a blog post.
Now, I’m not must of a “organizer” but I do like a good checklist for myself.
Your blog post SEO checklist is going to help you make sure you’re getting certain things done within the blog post.
Little things that make a big difference in the overall scheme of things.
Over time, the little things will make a big impact on the SEO power of the blog.
What we’re about to show you is called “on page optimization”
These are the things you can do ON THE PAGE to help your overall search engine optimization.
First! You Need a Keyword for Your Blog Post!
We use Jaaxy to find our keywords for blog posts.
There are a lot of different keyword tools you can use, here’s why we like this one….
Choose 1 main keyword and 5 other really tightly relevantly ones.
Where to put your MAIN keyword?
This is the main keyword that you have chosen for this blog post you’re writing.
- Blog Post Title
- URL (aka permalink)
- First paragraph
- First H2 or H3 title
- In the text naturally a couple times
- In at least one image file name
- In at least one image file alt tag
Where to put relevant backup keywords?
These are the keywords that are very similar to the main keyword.
- H2 & H3 titles (where they fit naturally)
- Image file names
- In the text naturally
Images Need Keywords!
Your images need to be uploaded with keyword names!
One image should have the main keyword and the other images (if you have more) should have the relevant keyword names in the actual file name.
Fill in the alt tags for all your images with the main keyword and others with relevant keywords.
We discuss these types of things in depth in our SEO and Keyword course because it’s vital to the blog as a whole.
If your images aren’t optimized, you’re missing a boatload of targeted traffic.
Put Your Blog Post in a Relevant Category!
Your blog categories need to fit the overall scope of the website.
Your blog posts should be placed in the category or categories that best fit the topic.
The overall blog structure will revolve around your categories.
Using Yoast? Let’s Not Get Too Crazy!
If You’re Using the Yoast plugin, fill in the keyword at the bottom and pop a meta tag description in there.
Do not become anal about getting all green lights in Yoast.
If you do, great, if you don’t – move on.
Don’t let the little things keep you from moving forward, if you have your check list and everything looks good, move on.
Interlinking is GREAT SEO!
How Do I Interlink?
If you’re not interlinking relevant blog posts and pages on your site then you’re missing the SEO boat.
When you’re writing on relevant topics and sticking with the focus of your blog you should be able to interlink blog posts together naturally.
