The Rise and Fall Revenue Sharing Sites
Blogging on free sites or revenue sharing sites were big a few years ago and a great way to earn money, lots of money. I would know. The first two years of my affiliate marketing journey was spent blogging on these free revenue sharing sites.
I was making anywhere from $10,000 to $12,000 a month before Google let the zoo animals out! Overnight it seemed, my income went from $10,000 to $500 a month. Wow, what a blow!!
After a week or so or mourning my loss – I had to decide whether or not to continue with this affiliate marketing business or throw in the towel?
Well, momma didn’t raise no quitter you see and I decided that there was too much money to be made online to just give up! I mean, where am I going to make $10,000 a month in my small town? Once you taste that kinda money, you can’t go back to “the standard” job.
Bye Bye Third Party Sites!
Now, obviously these revenue sharing sites were not going to work anymore because ever since Google released all those zoo animals they have just sunk deeper and deeper in the rankings. Even high quality sites are finding they can’t possibly peak past a certain point. Third party sites have lost their weight and it’s anyone’s guess if they will ever bounce back. It’s been almost 3 years and I have seen no change.
What I have seen though is a lot of these revenue sharing sites torturing their writers with constant changes to the rules and regulations of their sites. They unleash all sorts of changes that always result in LESS MONEY for their writers. In the end, a lot of them end up closing their doors and leaving their writers high and dry.
Listen, when you’re playing on someone else’s playground you’ve got to play by their rules. You are giving these third party revenue sharing sites control of your content and your income. You are also building the dreams of the owners of these sites, when you could be building your own.
You really need to let that last sentence sink in….
Very Little Control of Your SEO Blogging on Revenue Sharing Sites
The only control you have over SEO when you blogging on free sites or a revenue sharing site or a site owned by others is that of your on page SEO. There is no way to go into the posts of others and create that intricate web that the Google spiders crawl if it’s not your own site. You are at the mercy of someone else. You are limited in your reach.
Being able to optimize your site as a whole and not just on page SEO is huge. It makes a difference in how Google returns searches and affects the authority of your site. Being able to interlink on your own website correctly is a huge advantage that you just won’t have on a revenue sharing site that you don’t own.
If you are limiting your SEO and keyword tactics to just on page, you are missing search volume and leaving money all over the table. Take a good Seo tutorial and you will see exactly what I am talking about. Google has changed the way it renders and returns searches and is constantly changing. Have you kept up with the times. If you are still blogging on these sites, I suggest you have not.
Sure you can make some money blogging on revenue sharing sites, but boy oh boy the money you are leaving all over the table.
Get off the Roller Coaster of Revenue Sharing Sites!
I keep seeing the same people jump from revenue sharing site to revenue sharing site and they keep getting the rug pulled out from under them!
Stop it! Get off the hamster wheel of abuse!!! These sites are NO GOOD for you! You could have had your own blog making money by now!!
Listen to me, it’s not too late for you! Affiliate marketing is alive and well. My partner Lesley is on track to earn over $40,000 this Christmas from her toy blog. No hype, no joke. She’s not some website genius or anything. She’s regular people like me and you.
Lesley decided after a revenue sharing site stole her income that she wasn’t having it anymore! She put on her big girl panties and figured out how to build a blog and learn to make money with it! That’s all it takes – a mindset to move forward!
History ALWAYS Repeats Itself
There is a reason these third party revenue sharing sites are crashing and burning left and right. Google doesn’t give priority to sites like these the way it used to and there hasn’t been much change. You see the Google updates were all about relevancy, and these revenue sharing sites certainly don’t meet that criteria. They include such a diverse group of topics that nothing there is really relevant.
You might find making cookies in one article, and painting a car in another. Google is all about relevancy and relevant, narrow sites gain their favor. We teach all about going narrow and finding your niche site at Pajama Affiliates.
I will only “USE” these revenue sharing sites as backlinks and to write about something not relevant to my blog. Backlinks are good and sometimes I like to write about random things that don’t fit my blog topic – but other than that, no thank you!
This girl learned my lesson and there’s no need to let history repeat itself with my online income.
