Wondering how to choose affiliate products that convert sales?
If you are a blogger, you are likely focused on traffic. You may think that if you get traffic the sales and money will come. Yes, traffic means you are doing something right, but if you aren’t featuring affiliate products that convert on your blog, all the traffic in the world won’t do you much good.
The products you choose should be relevant to your blog post. I have seen some totally irrelevant affiliate products featured in blogs or even in sidebars. A blog on fashion for example, should not feature an ad in the sidebar to food or recipes.
A lot of our affiliates make this mistake by putting our banner ads for affiliate marketing classes on blogs that have nothing at all to do with affiliate marketing. Their blog or niche is something not related at all. Sales will not be made like this.
Affiliate Products that Convert Sales is the Goal!
Lesley and I here at Pajama Affiliates have been doing a lot of one on one blog evaluations helping people uncover products that convert.
The best way I know how to explain this is with examples. You really do have to put yourself into the shoes our your reader, your audience.
Let’s say you have a recipe site and you have a category on slow cooker recipes. If I am searching for recipes for my crock pot, chances are pretty good I already have a crock pot. I mean I wouldn’t be searching for a recipe for something to put in it if I didn’t. But did you know that a lot of bloggers put affiliate links to slow cookers in their blog post?
That’s why they’re not converting sales!
You’ve got to think outside the box here for your crockpot recipe. An affiliate product for crockpot liners or bag holders would be far more effective. btw, I’m only adding links to these examples to show you what I mean, not because I think you’ll buy a crockpot liner from my affiliate marketing blog post 😉
These bloggers succeeded in targeting an audience in the blog post, yet failed to deliver anything useful to the reader in the form of products. That’s why NO SALES are made on these posts.
Affiliate Products That Convert That Make Life Easier
The affiliate products that convert are the ones that your reader sees but didn’t think of themselves. It’s probably going to be convenience product that makes what their already doing easier or more efficient.
I have a small website on Himalayan Pink Salt. There is nothing on that site that is not about Himalayan Pink Salt. You would think I would sell a lot of Himalayan Salt right? Yes, I do, but I also sell a lot of other things on there too! I do it using this method I’m talking about in this post!
Here’s another great example….
I have a post on how Himalayan pink salt mixed with honey helps you sleep. Well, you might be thinking, salt and honey of course… and while I do sell some organic honey and salt, I really kill it selling these cute little glass jars with airtight lids to store it in.
And another example….
On this same blog, I have a post on why your Himalayan salt lamps might be leaking. Do I sell salt lamps on that post? No, I sell the bulbs that go in the lamps. These particular lamps leak because the bulbs that come with them are of a very low wattage, like a nightlight. The salt lamp not getting hot enough causes them to sweat.
Boom! I helped the reader! I made a sale!
That’s what you want to do! That’s how you give affiliate products on your blog posts that convert sales.
You need to give them something they didn’t even realize they needed or wanted. Help the reader by giving them the “not-so-obvious” product they probably don’t already have.
If you want more help in this area and you have blog posts getting traffic and not converting sales, consider having us evaluate your blog. This service has helped others make sales overnight!
The Bottom Line of High Converting Affiliate Products
You can find the highest converting affiliate product ever, but if it’s not relative to your blog and what you are writing about, you are spinning your wheels.
- Give the reader what they came for
- Solve problems for the reader with products
- Feature products that will make their life easier
- Present products that they may not have but would want
When you create a post on your blog, really step into the readers shoes. Think about your own experiences and how you can help them.
If you are going at it from the focus of I just want this sale, you probably won’t be able to think outside of the box. Instead, think of how you can really help your reader and show them something special. Know your topic, know your audience and give them the items they didn’t even realize they needed!
If you need some one on one direction with this or a new set of eyes to help you uncover these products, you can get help through our blog evaluation service.
