I started selling with the Amazon FBA program which stands for fulfilled by Amazon, about six weeks ago. Many have been very curious about this program and what it takes to start it, mainly what does it cost to start the Amazon FBA program. The start up cost can be very little or as much as you want it to be.
Registering of course is free. The fee to sell on Amazon is however $39.99 per month. The good news though is that your first month is free and you most likely won’t get billed until the end of the second month. Note however, that some have been charged the first of the next month after signing up.
You may also want to purchase a app on your phone for scanning items in the store to determine their profitability. The app I use is $9.99 per month, though I have yet to be charged this. There are also free apps out there and ways of sourcing online where you don’t even leave your house. I won’t get into that here however.
So that leaves the cost to start the Amazon FBA program to what you purchase to ship and the shipping fees of your first order. When you sign up with Amazon FBA, you will be asked to provide a debit card or bank account. The shipping fees for your first order will most likely be billed to you in a few days or a week or so. My first shipping charges were right around $12.00 bucks.
My first shipment costs me about $40.00 bucks. I do know some who have started by using items in their house so no purchase was needed. You may have books or other items laying around that could be selling like hotcakes on Amazon. In that case, the cost would be zero in this area.
I purchased 5 toy canteens that were hot items on Amazon for my first shipment. They were $2.97 each and were selling for over $20 each on Amazon. I sold all eight items within days after them shipping. So my first investment into my inventory was right around $20.00 in which I more than doubled that in profit.
So you can start small and work your way up or you can go bigger. It’s really up to you. I have managed to make a nice profit the first few weeks of starting amazon fba program. You can see the screenshot below or my last 30 day earnings. This does not count my first two weeks!
As you can see my Amazon business is growing. I did have a head start I must confess. I mentored with a friend, Troy who was already doing Amazon FBA and making thousands a month. He created a bonus in called Amazon Sales Ninja for me to add to my online home study course on making money from home. It is available exclusively at Pajama Affiliates along with a support group of peers that are already doing this successfully. You can access this course and the Amazon Sales Ninja here at Pajama Affiliates.
I went through all of yours/Troy’s Amazon FBA videos, they helped a lot, thanks for those.
The final thing I am really stuck on before I can get dug in and that is sourcing, we dont have Walmarts or Walgreens in England and we dont have thrift stores, what sorts of stores work well? Bookstores, charity stores, do regular supermarkets work? I dont want to do online sourcing just yet.
Finally am I right in thinking of hat $670 you get around 1/3 after fees?
Thanks in advance!
How did you go through the videos Ash? Did you buy the course?
Yes I got the course when it first came out 🙂
