Every marketing guru out there will tell you that you must use email lists for marketing. I am positive that email lists are effective. I know some gurus that make a lot of money just sending out one email to their list. Good for them, I just don’t like it. Today, I removed that pop up off of my other site Love Girl Talk. I may replace it with a small opt in box on the sidebar, but for now, it’s gone.
For starters, it was distracting. Sure I gave you a free book, that was nice huh? I wonder how many clicked away though because of that pop up or how many didn’t stay on my site because it popped up if they navigated from one page to the next. I have heard it’s rather important for people to spend more time on your site. It’s called bounce rate. If removing that pop up will lower my bounce rate, I am happy.
I have been thinking about this for a while now. Please understand I am not trying to discourage you to not use email lists for marketing. It’s just not for me at this time. It really came home to me today when I watched this video a friend has posted on Facebook by Beth Martens. She talks a lot about style and being authentic. After watching her video, it dawned on me, email marketing does not fit my style.
The reason email lists for marketing does not fit my style is I am not one of those big gurus. I can make a million dollars, but it still won’t turn me into a charismatic silver tongued marketing guru. My leadership is a softer style.
When I get an email from someone who I have signed up on their lists, sure they offer some good value, but always, almost always is a link to purchase something at the end. Yes we are in this to make money, but to me that feels like chasing a dollar and I want the dollar to chase me. I wrote about chasing the dollar at Affiliate Marketing and Chasing the Dollar.
I had my first 10,000 dollar month as a affiliate marketer with no email lists for marketing. People began emailing me instead. If they are emailing me, I know better what their needs are and can reply accordingly. Sending out a massive email to a list is not so targeted. Take my dating and relationship site I mentioned above. I could send out an email about how to have lasting love and one of the ladies on my list could have just had her boyfriend break up with her. Not cool in my book.
So for now, I may change my mind later, but I am done with the email marketing lists. If you landed here to learn how, sorry to disappoint you. It just doesn’t feel authentic to me. I opt out of the opt in list.
