When following your dreams, you must wait for the tipping point. What I mean by tipping point is when you get to a place and you start seeing results. So many set out following their dreams and give up right before it manifests. Had I done that, this blog post simply would not be here.
I have had many setbacks along the way. Not only in my business, but my personal life as well. I took up affiliate marketing 6 years ago. I was passionate about my niche and that in itself is part of my dream. Not only do I want to make money, but I want to help others along the way. My focus is mostly on empowering women and that includes encouraging women to follow their dreams.
I started out on a popular women’s forum. I posted there daily and my advice became sought after. One dream I wanted to follow was to have my very own forum for women. Well I was asked to be moderator there, so that was a step, but no money, I did it for free. Then the forum was shut down, here was my opportunity, but I had little technical knowledge.
I hired it out to a woman who got it up and running. It was taking off and doing quite well. I had affiliate links in it and it was beginning to generate some money. I also started blogging and building one page websites on Squidoo. Things were looking up. I was making about $500 a month, so I knew I was well on my way to following my dreams. It could be done and affiliate marketing was going to pay my way to that dream. I was almost to that tipping point.
Well things happen. My website got hacked and the forum just died overnight. A few weeks later, I had violated some terms and conditions on Squidoo and all of my money making sites were locked down. Note here, always read the terms of service. Then the Penguin and Panda updates just killed my blogs. I was back to square one. Following your dreams I learned is not always easy and I was about to give up. It had been two years.
I didn’t give up though. I started all over on Squidoo. I was determined to make them better. I did. Within 6 months I had 5 lens in tier one, meaning high performing. In 9 months, I had managed to get 10 to that level. I was learning so much about search engine optimization and the value of good content. Finally in year 3, I saw that tipping point. One morning I woke up and had made $500 while I slept. I assure you I won’t quit now.
I was making enough money from Squidoo and my affiliate links there to move into a new house, get all new furniture, take vacations and pay all of my bills. I had my website rebuilt and a brand new forum. In a few months time, I have managed to get over 325 members there and am now in the process of opening up a paid area there.
*Note, Squidoo shut it’s doors on September 2014, but lucky for me I saw the writing on the wall and moved all my content to my own sites. Yes, another setback that I survived.
I realized also that I had a lot of knowledge as to how this affiliate marketing works and how it can be the vehicle to following your dreams. The result is this site was created and I now have my own affiliate program where I can help others. I can help you in following your dreams if you have the drive to get it done. You too can find that tipping point if you just don’t give up and commit to following your dreams.
