There are many choices out there when it comes to blogging.
Many use a free website to blog while others create their own sites and pay for hosting.
Is there a difference and is it okay to blog on a free site?
Yes and no is how I will answer that. Free sites are a great place to learn. No doubt about that. I learned a lot of what I know by using a free website to blog on. I also made a lot of money doing it, a lot. That was then, before all the Google updates however, this is now.
Free websites simply don’t have to power they used to have. I learned this when I was blogging on Squidoo. One page blogs that I had there once upon a time would get tens of thousands of visits a day. Squidoo just closed it’s doors in September of 2014 if that gives you any clue if this is true or not.
I have watched many that were there with me carry their stuff to other free websites and to me that is just beating the same dead horse. I only use free sites now for backlink purposes only. There are risks with anything really, but more so by posting your valuable original content on a site that you do not own. I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand the thought of my work being here today and possibly gone tomorrow.
If you are new to this, then by all means start on a free website to blog and get your feet wet until you are more clear. It’s a great place to gain experience. Invest into a domain name, forward it to an affiliate link and use that in your posts. Get some age and traffic going to that domain name now.
The benefit of getting that domain name now is that when you are more clear, you will have an aged domain name and everything you have thus far put out on the web will now direct to your new site when you build it and be an instant backlink. You can read more about how to do this here.
I use wordpress. You can get your site up and running in just a couple of hours. It really isn’t that costly and so worth it to have the freedom to do what you want without the threat or risk of someone else packing up shop and taking your stuff with them. You don’t have to use a free website to blog. It’s not that hard to create your own.
