Often when someone ask me what I do for a living and I answer I am a blogger, they get this confused look on their face. How do blogs make money? They assume I am a starving writer. This just isn’t so. Usually the confused look is followed by the question, how do you make money as a blogger ?
The jest of it is blogs make money through advertising and affiliate partners. Many sites you land on when searching for topics in Google are blogs. Almost everything on Pinterest is blogs. Youtube often links to blogs.
Bloggers either have their own products that they have created or crafts, or they sell the products of others. I can give you a few examples of this.
How do bloggers make money selling their own products?
Lets look at Rubyhooping.com. This is a blog created by a pajama affiliate to sell her own crafts, which happens to be handmade beautiful Hula Hoops. This pajama affiliate started a little over a year ago. She generated over $20,000 her first year and last month alone, grossed $6000 in sales. Not bad for your first year at blogging. Ruby is selling physical products. Do you have a craft?
This blog that you are on now currently has two products. These are both digital products. One is a step by step guide to blogging and the other teaches you how to sell on Amazon as an FBA Seller and make money as soon as two weeks.
How do bloggers make money selling the products of others?
Selling the products of others is called affiliate marketing. This is when you have banners or links in your blog to affiliate partners that pay you a commission for any sales that are generated on your blog. You have your own coded link and sales are tracked and you get paid. Amazon for example has an affiliate program. There are millions of affiliate programs out there for about anything under the sun.
I have a little niche blog. It’s fairly new. It’s on Himalayan Salt. I am an affiliate for the Himalayan Salt shop and Amazon. On this blog you will find links to both. The Himalayan Salt shop pays me 20% commissions. Note there are many affiliate programs that pay up 75% commissions or more. That can get pretty lucrative.
So someone lands on my blog looking for a Himalayan Salt Lamp or maybe a salt block for cooking. I have links on the blog to the salt shop and when they click on it they land here where they can actually purchase what they are looking for. Pretty amazing.
Blogs make money 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
The best thing about starting a blog to make money is once you put your pages up, they work for you 24/7. You can wake up in the morning to money you made while you were asleep. I don’t know about you, but that beats a “Job” to me any day.
Now of course when considering how do blogs make money of course you have to have readers or what we bloggers call traffic. You can have the most amazing blog in the world but without traffic, it won’t make any money.
In Pajama Affiliates I teach you exactly how to get that traffic from the search engines and many other tricks of the trade as well. Bloggers do make money, trust me!
