First this post is not to bash those perfectionist among us. I know many perfectionist and they are very dear to me. I have found though that being a perfectionist can hold you back big time in affiliate marketing. If we wait for something to be perfect before we put it out there, we may never get it done.
Over the years if you think about it we have probably had many people tells us so many things that support the perfectionist mentality. Ever heard any job worth doing is worth doing well. I have had several bosses in my life that would make me redo things over and over until it was perfect. Some were way worse than others. In reality, they were holding back my creativity.
This does not work in affiliate marketing. If I waited for everything to be perfect, this blog post would not be here. I would still be stuck at the beginning. A lot of our need for perfection is because we care more what others think. The ego! The reality here though is that you are you biggest judge and jury, no one else. Your biggest critic is you, no one else.
I started affiliate marketing going blindly. I had no plan. I just wrote about what I loved. I had typos and the grammar police would comment. I still do I am sure. While it is nice to have great grammar and spelling and yes we should strive to do so; it’s our message that is important. It’s our passion for our topic that we write about in affiliate marketing that will cause us to expand. People can feel passion, they really can.
Let’s take video marketing for example. My Pajama Affiliate Home Study Course is a series of videos. I have some blunders. I had a cold in a few of them and have the sniffles. Sure I could have redone them all and reached for perfection, but at what cost? I would still be doing them over and over because they will never be perfect.
So moral here is to just get your stuff out there. I started with just articles and forum posting. I had no website, nothing. My articles grew a following. I moved to Squidoo. I just put it out there. I can always go back as I learn more and more and tweak and make it better.
In affiliate marketing, what I am saying is perfectionism can make you stall, make you doubt yourself. Don’t, as the Nike slogan says, Just Do It! Another reference that comes to mind is the movie, Field of Dreams. Build it and they will come.
There is nothing wrong with winging it as you go! Just fly! Go in with your heart and you can’t go wrong. Those are the ones that soar, the ones that go into it with heart! So while the perfectionists are still stuck at the drawing board, others are already making money!
