When I first started selling on Amazon, I made some costly mistakes. I am hoping that this post on selling on Amazon for beginners will help you avoid the mistakes I made. I still have inventory just sitting for example for some poor buying choices that I made.
#1 Tip for Selling on Amazon for Beginners
Sales rank is important. Know when ranking numbers are too high risk. I have gotten so excited about a large profit item that I bought it only to discover later that it will just sit for months and never sell. We teach this at Amazing Sales Ninja.
#2 Tip for Selling on Amazon for Beginners
Know your profit margins. A good rule of thumb is when an item is selling on Amazon for 3 times the amount of what you paid for it. This usually gives you 100% ROI or return on investment. Also larger items are heavier items will cost more to ship and store in the Amazon warehouse. Be aware of this when making a purchasing decision as it can cut into your profits.
#3 Tip for Selling on Amazon for Beginners
The more items you ship at one time, the better. It usually doesn’t cost much more to ship one item as it does 10. If you ship one item for example and it costs you $10.00 bucks, well you just cut into your profit big time. If you ship 10 items and it costs you $10.00 bucks, you are only taking a dollar hit on your profit per item. Big difference. We cover shipping to Amazon in great detail at Amazing Sales Ninja.
#4 Tip for Selling on Amazon for Beginners
Have all your shipping supplies ready and on hand. Know what you will need and what is and is not allowed by Amazon. For example, packing peanuts is a big no no at Amazon. Once you hit that complete shipment button you have 24 hours to get your inventory shipped. Not fun when you realize you don’t have the proper bagging, boxes or packing supplies. I have been running all over town because of this bad decision before, never again.
#5 Tip for Selling on Amazon for Beginners
Know before you buy an item if Amazon is selling it. I am not saying you can’t compete with Amazon, but as a beginner selling on Amazon, I would not advise it. There are times when it’s okay to compete with Amazon, but as a rule, I just don’t. You can read more about competing with Amazon here.
There is a lot to learn for a beginner selling on Amazon. I can help you take that learning curve away and get you up and running in just a couple of days or less and help you cut through all that red tape at Amazing Sales Ninja. You could have your first paycheck in as l little as two weeks.
