I have been working from home now for 5 years. Most think I have it made. I get up when I want to. I can work from anywhere in the world with as long as I have an internet connection. Oh such freedom and yes they are correct. There is however some scary things about working from home. If there wasn’t everybody would be doing it right?
First of all if something goes wrong, doesn’t work, or makes you no money, the only one to blame is you. You can’t say well my boss is a jerk, or my co-worker sabotages or the company doesn’t have any money. You are fully responsible. There is no one else in this boat with you. Some simply aren’t cut out to work from home.
Another scary part for many that most don’t think about is the time alone. I have discovered in my main niche which is dating and relationships that a lot of people don’t like themselves much and simply don’t like to be alone. If you work from home, unless you have kids, you will be spending most of your time alone. I must mention the upside of this. This time working from home has taught me a lot about myself and I have mastered this loneliness demon. I simply love being alone. Perhaps maybe even to a fault as I am beginning to prefer my own company over the company of many.
If you choose to work from home, in order to be successful, you will need to be more active in social media. This opens you up to the haters of the world. Oh they are out there, no doubt. Rude ugly comments on your blogs, videos and posts for starters. People accusing you of all sorts of things. It takes some thick skin at times to be working from home.
I can honestly say the hardest part for me when I started working from home is the loss of support from those I love, such as friends and family. I got so much resistance. Get a real job was told to me more times than I can count. “You can’t make money online”, “you are chasing a pipe dream”, “be careful, you are going to get scammed”, “there is no such thing as making money online”, and the list goes on and on.
To this day I still have family members and a few “friends” that treat me as less than. It’s taken 5 years for many to start taking me serious. Not much fun when everyone starts talking about their jobs and if you mention what you do, they eyes roll.
That is okay for you see all this time alone has taught me my true value and how to really love and take care of myself. I am making a difference in this world in ways that they simply can’t. I can reach a global audience, I can share and help others on their journey and I can teach others to do the same as I do and have this freedom.
So when I talk about being alone above, I can’t tell you how true it can be. It may very well be the hardest thing to adapt to working from home. Most just give up. I didn’t and I won’t. I plan on living the dream. Is it easy? Hell no! Is it worth it? Hell yes!
Sure working from home may be a scary step, but I am living proof that it can be done and done well. I teach others how to do the same and cut that scary learning curve off by leaps and bounds.
