I have seen many a person give up when it comes to affiliate marketing. They are discouraged because they aren’t making any money. I can look at your blog or posts and tell usually tell you right off why you aren’t making money with affiliate marketing and it’s almost always one of the 3 reasons below.
Reason 1 why you aren’t making money with affiliate marketing.
Your niche is way too broad and you have not targeted your market. You can get all the traffic in the world but if it’s not targeted, you won’t make a sale. Let’s say you have a niche site on hair care and you just write random posts on hair care tips with no rhyme or reason. Hair care for thin hair? Hair care for thick hair? Hair that tangles? Curly hair? Narrow it down with some long tailed keywords when you write a post, separate them in categories.
Also with a broad niche, I have seen many just start a blog and write about random things. You can do this if you have a huge social following, but it will take a long time to rely on Google to push you up like this. Find your niche and narrow it down as opposed to running blind.
Reason 2 why you aren’t making money with affiliate marketing.
You aren’t promoting something people are really searching for. Your market is not hungry. This one really is big. I have seen many an affiliate marketer waste a lot of time in a market that just doesn’t convert. Top converting sites are offering a solution to a problem. Are you offering a solution to a problem? Now of course there are a few exceptions to this as there are some things that people just want, but is what you are offering something that people just must have?
Reason 3 why you aren’t making money with affiliate marketing.
You aren’t consistent. You don’t update and add new content on a regular basis. Oh I know from experience that this is true. When I don’t update or add new content, my traffic and sales reflect it. If you want to make some serious money, commit to being consistent for at least a year.
Another thing that I think is worth mentioning is that many blog on free sites instead of investing in building their own websites. I can’t stress this enough. I have made a killing of free sites to have it all come tumbling down. Since the Google updates, might I also mention that the free sites are not authoritative and don’t carry the weight that they use to in the search engines. Build your own site and use the free ones for backlinks.
