When Do You Give Up On Your Dreams?
I am an affiliate marketer and I am an affiliate marketing teacher as well. It hasn’t always been an easy road and I have often been asked when do you give up your dreams? When do you give up and just get a real job?
My answer is simple.
I would live in a tent and eat beanie weenies out of a can before I gave up my dream.
THAT is the conviction that it takes to follow your dreams!
In the words of Winston Churchill,
“Never, never, never give up.”
Break Out of Your Comfort Zone – That’s Where the Miracles Are!
Those that give up are stuck in their comforts or security. Sure, they long for the freedom, but they aren’t willing to be uncomfortable to reach for it.
A big part of following a dream is stepping out of your comfort zone. I have had my share of struggles and setbacks. I am still alive! I have been uncomfortable I literally have eaten beanie weenies and if I was lucky, a piece of cheese toast to go with it!
Self Betrayal is the Ultimate Defeat
We as humans are almost always doing one of two things; avoiding pain or seeking pleasure. We miss a lot of experiences doing this. I am sure you have heard “no pain no gain.” To me, the idea of going back to work for a boss and building up the empire of another is the ultimate self betrayal.
It’s a huge compromise to the great plan that God has for my life. A slave to an alarm clock – a Monday through Friday routine and living for the weekend? That’s a human hamster wheel and prison that I will not step foot in! No, my dreams are bigger than that and it’s going to take a lot more than some financial or emotional insecurities to take me away from what I know!
What do you win in the rat race of life if you are first anyway? #1 Rat? Some cheese or an “atta boy”
There have been many times on this affiliate marketing journey where I have entertained the idea of going back to the safety and security of a steady paycheck. Ah yes, “the practical life.” Fear is often disguised as security and practicality.
Fear is the root of why people give up their dreams or never pursue them to begin with.
We come up with excuses or place blame people or experiences for our failures.
“The economy is bad, I don’t have time, I’m not good at that, those things don’t happen to people like me, you just don’t understand what I’ve been through……”
One excuse or blame after the other.
The only thing happening here is they are playing victims of their own self oppression.
You don’t think we’ve all been through things? You don’t think we all have excuses we could pull out of our rear end? Please, you’re only holding yourself back with your limited beliefs.
I have had many an affiliate marketing student tell me after attempting this business for a couple of months “this is not for me“. The reality is, they are not for this!
The Real Issue: Fear
Come on now! To learn a new skill or trade such as affiliate marketing comes with a learning curve. It’s a challenge and with every challenge brings the fear of failure.
Take those that fear public speaking or going live on video. It’s not that there is any physical danger in doing so, it’s the emotional discomfort that they want to avoid. Instead, they should be thinking thoughts like “Who will I help with this? Who will I inspire? Who will this motivate?” They choose thoughts of fear. We say, “What will I look like? What will people think? What if I make a mistake?”
Fear will cripple every dream before it ever takes off.
Allowing yourself to get trapped in a repetitive cycle of fear only cripples your growth. You’ve got to change your thinking to change your life. Right believing will always produce right living! You control your thoughts and emotions, you choose what you focus on – focus on the BIGGER picture.
Look past your current circumstance and see what it is that made you want to start this business instead. You control what you think about, no one else. Change the channel of your mind to a more positive, upbeat station!
So many give up before the magic happens!
There will be struggles, there will be emotional and possibly even physical discomfort. It is through this that we grow and through growth we really live!
Fear is not an option, self oppression is not an option – if you’re going to see your dream manifested in reality, you can’t let fear hold you back. It’s an emotion, nothing more than your ego. Change the channel of your thoughts…
